BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE erection of a jumbotron at the Silver Jubilee Stadium, promised by Minister of Sports Hon. Glen Phillip, will soon be fulfilled in time for the SKNAAA’s hosting of the OECS Championships in July.

In his remarks at the opening of the 2014 TDC Inter-School Championships on March 28, President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) Glen Jeffers called on Minister Phillip to construct a jumbotron at the Stadium.

“A Jumbotron would be a very nice addition right next to the athletes’ village, especially if we decide to host CARIFTA 2015,” Jeffers said.

In response, Minister Phillip told the gathering that a jumbotron would be present when the SKNAAA hosts the OECS Championships in July.

“He tried to put me on the spot...but what I will guarantee to track fans is that the OECS Championships will be held here in July of this year and the jumbotron will be here at the Silver Jubilee Stadium,” Phillip promised.

In a recent interview with SKNVibes, Phillip disclosed that the jumbotron is still a reality.

“The SKNAAA and members from the Sports Department will be meeting and has been focusing on all those things,” he said.

The Minister however stated that it would be different to the one recently installed at Warner Park Cricket Stadium and that no major construction work may be visible.

“Looking at the jumbotron in Warner Park, it is something different to that. It is not the same type of jumbotron, so you won’t probably see large holes in the ground,” Minister Phillip explained.

A jumbotron is a large-screen television typically used in sports stadiums and concert venues to show close-up shots of the event.
