Establishment of a Development Cooperation Partnership between St Kitts Teachers’ Union and Canadian Teachers’ Federation

By: SKTU, Press Release

Basseterre, St Kitts. June 02, 2014 -- The St Kitts Teachers’ Union is seeking to provide opportunities for our teachers to expand their practices through focused interaction with our Canadian counterparts and through accessing resources with individual support and to overcome traditional ways teachers have interacted.

Union President Ron Dublin-Collins said that Professional Development Training is one of the Union’s priority areas as it helps teachers stay informed on the latest instruction techniques, new research-based teaching methods that best meet the needs of students in a mixed-ability classroom and advances in classroom management practices and maximizes learning for all students regardless of differences in skill level, background or learning style.

In light of this, the St Kitts Teachers’ Union has successful partnered with the Canadian Teachers’ Federation to establish a Development Cooperation Partnership. This partnership will provide remarkable benefits for our teachers here in St Kitts by training and development of our teachers improving their skills, knowledge, capabilities and competencies required to perform well and promoting personal and professional growth, thus enabling the Teachers’ Union to improve efficiency and productivity in the education
    sector.

The Development Cooperation Partnership will be realised firstly through a Summer Institute Training Programme facilitated and funded by the Canadian Teachers Federation. This initial programme will see the training of one hundred (100) teachers in such areas as Learning Disabilities, Autism & Aspergers, Intellectual Delays, Deaf & Hard of Hearing, Learning Styles & Integration, Mathematics, Special Education Strategies and strengthen teachers ability to better to monitor, and identify students’ individual needs and to appropriately and effectively respond to these needs.
