Digicel KickStart Clinic Hits SKN

By: Digicel, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts (June 11, 2014) – “Adding to the physical development of our youths and communities” has been the mantra adapted by Digicel St. Kitts and Nevis for the year 2014 and the Digicel Kickstart Academy will do exactly this.

Thirty of the Federation’s best football players between the ages of 13-16 have been invited to the Digicel KickStart Clinic where they will undergo an intense two-day training session with coaches of the Chelsea Foundation Football Club.

Many of the boys are avid Chelsea FC fans and are eager to meet the coaches and learn as much as they can to better their skills in the sport of football.

This year for the first time, a special day has been introduced for the young female footballers of the Federation. More and more females are now getting involved with the ‘beautiful game’ which traditionally has been a male-dominated Sport, and so, Wednesday June 18th has been introduced for girls to also sharpen their skills with coaches who train some of the best in the world.

The Digicel Kickstart Clinic will be held at the Silver Jubilee Stadium from June 16-18, 2014 in the afternoons, clearing the participants’ schedule of possible class or exam priorities. At the end of the Clinic, three young football stars will be chosen by the Chelsea coaches to represent St. Kitts and Nevis at the Regional Digicel KickStart Academy in Bridgetown, Barbados later this year.

At the DKS Academy, participants will have an entire week of training with the Chelsea coaches and placed on teams with boys from other Digicel Caribbean islands.  Digicel’s Group office confirmed that last year, three boys who attended the Academy went on to receive scholarships to attend colleges overseas, after being scouted while at Digicel KickStart Academy.

As always, the DKSC would not be possible without the support of the Ministry of Sports, St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) and the local football coaches. All high school boys interested in participating in this year’s Clinics are encouraged to contact their school’s Physical Education teacher for details and make plans to take advantage of the Digicel KickStart Clinic and propel themselves, their sport and country forward.
