Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: One of the world’s most respected travel website, Forbes Traveler, has a feature article on the plantation hotels of St. Kitts-Nevis.

ForbesTraveler.com features the Montpelier Plantation Inn, Nisbet Plantation, Golden Rock Plantation Inn, Hermitage Hotel, Rawlins Plantation Inn and Ottley’s Plantation Inn, with vivid prose and enticing images.

Writer of the feature, Jill Fergus, states that these plantation hotels are “a big draw because of their sense of history, intimacy and distinctive architectural detailing such as old stone windmills and ruins of thick volcanic stone walls.”

Fergus also points out that high-profile modern hotels are certainly in abundance in the Caribbean, however, “it’s easy to feel that you could be in a hotel in Miami or Los Angeles or even in New York and not on a tropical island.”

The article quotes Timothy Hoffman owner of Montpelier Plantation Inn, John Guilbert, executive director of the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society and Ottley’s Plantation Inn owner, Karen Keusch.

Fergus describes each plantation hotel in great detail, and includes a great deal of historical information on the establishments.

In the article Fergus points out that Rawlins Plantation Inn, has a sugar mill that has been converted into a honeymoon destination, and Ottley’s Plantation Inn, has swimming pool that has been built into the remains of the old boiling house.

“Of course, in the Caribbean there are pools everywhere,” says Ottley’s owner Karen Keusch in the article. “But where else can you swim alongside 300-year-old walls? Nearby Brimstone Hill Fortress, which took 100 years to build starting in the 1690s, still stands.”
