BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - ANOTHER sex offender who appeared before the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court of Appeal was granted a reduction in his sentence.
Represented by Attorney-at-Law John Cato, Craig Bradshaw appealed against the 20-year sentence which was handed down on March 28, 2011 for Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.
The act was perpetrated against a girl who was 13 years old at the time.
According to evidence presented at the trial, the offence was committed at West Street, Basseterre between July 24 and 25, 2009.
On Tuesday (Jun. 10), Bradshaw's attorney argued against the 20-year sentence and after considering several mitigating factors the Justices of Appeal allowed the appeal.
Bradshaw had his sentenced reduced from 20 years to 12 with the time he spent on remand to be taken into consideration.
In another sexual matter, Joseph ‘Baa’ Herbert will have to wait to have his buggery conviction appeal heard.
Herbert's matter was called to be heard yesterday (Jun. 11) but he had to request an adjournment, having found out that his attorney, Denzil Hinds, was not in the Federation.
He was jointly convicted with Mario ‘Antonio’ Harvey on May 17, 2011 for the offence, which was committed on several occasions between July and October 2010.
The victim was a 14-year-old boy whose learning ability is less than that of a kindergarten pupil.
Herbert was given the maximum sentence of 10 years for his participation in the crime.
He was advised to make contact with his attorney or seek another legal counsel for his appeal. His matter was adjourned to the next local sitting of the Appeal Court in October, 2014.
