Team UNITY stages another successful march and rally

By: Team UNITY, Press Release (TUCOM)

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, June 14th   2014 (TUCOM)  --  As the country heads into a general election this year, Team Unity has stepped up its demands for free and fair elections.  In that regard, Friday evening saw thousands of supporters, well-wishers and spectators in their white t-shirts and a rainbow of other colours representing the cross section of groups forming the Team Unity Movement, marching and lining the streets of Basseterre, in what was dubbed a March for Democracy.

The march sought to sensitize local and regional community that all was not well with democracy in St. Kitts and Nevis.  It drew attention to the 18 month delay by the illegitimate Denzil Douglas regime in calling  the motion of no confidence, the failure of the Governor General to consult with the Leader of the Opposition and Premier of Nevis on the appointment of the Supervisor of Elections Wingrove  George, the undermining of democracy by the appointment of political hacks to serve in the Electoral systems.

Other issues raised included the high cost of living, the corruption in government and the sale of our passports to illicit actors thereby threatening the democratic peace in the country. A huge banner informed the thousands lining the streets and in the march that the event was about “Restoring Democracy and Promoting Prosperity.” Clearly democracy provides the environment for the enjoyment for the Prosperity Agenda.

The Rally which followed on Bank Street saw new faces to the Team UNITY platform in Claudius Hardist Gumbs and Eustace Maynard making inaugural presentations at Team Unity Rally. Candidates all made brief presentations. The Rally was ably chaired by the charming Avenice Thompson.
