BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, June 17th 2014 (TUCOM):-As Team Unity continues its all-inclusive, all embracing Listening Tours to the length and breadth of the country, all electoral districts are provided an opportunity for a close encounter and interaction with Team Unity. This week Team Unity would have completed the first cycle of such rounds when it goes to the heart of St Christopher 6, Dieppe Bay Village.
Persons from, all walks of life are expected to attend the Listening Tour Townhall style meeting and to air their views on how to rebuild the socio economic fabric of our country, damaged by Douglas refusal to listen and learn. Our country is caught in an IMF programme which was avoidable had Douglas heeded the admonitions of Albert Edwards, former Director of Audit who warned Douglas that he would take the country over a fiscal precipice if Douglas continued to chalk up fiscal deficits year on year. During the period 1995-2007 Denzil Douglas as Minister of Finance amassed an unprecedented $700 million deficit, and presided over deficit spending by several state entities which required his approval to secure financing.
The mismanagement of the country can also be adduced by the high level of unemployment in the country. According to ECCB unemployment averages 20 percent in member states with some countries reaching as high as 40 percent. St Kitts and Nevis under Douglas’watch has become one of the top 10 homicidal countries in the world. St Kitts and Nevis is ranked number 3 in the world regarding incarceration rates.Over the last 3 years St Kitts is declining in its global Ranking In Doing Business. In this regard it is under performing,frankly speaking we are doing badly on several socio economic indices. Our country’s reputation has been damaged by the illegality, corruption and impropriety associated with the Douglas run Citizenship by Investment Programme.
The people of St Christopher 6 have the option to bring an end to Douglas legacy of mismanagement, vulgarity and coarseness in the body politics, by voting for a new Parliamentary Representative. Team Unity expects to name its candidate for number6 in due course. This Thursday’s Listening Tour also provides them with the opportunity to let Team Unity know what their needs and concerns are.
So far Team Unity’s Listening Tours have been well attended, highly interactive and attracted positive reviews. Team Unity’s Leader, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, the man designated as the next Prime Minister and popular Parliamentarian of St Christopher 7, will lead the team. The event will take place at the Fisheries Cooperation at 7:30pm, on Thursday 19th June, 2014.
