Delaying The Elections Will Not Help says Peter Wickham

Peter Wickham
Team UNITY Communications Press Release

Political pundits have taken more than a curious interest in Peter Wickham’s, analyses of the political situation in St Kitts and Nevis. In a WinnFM Interview last Friday,Mr. Wickham, owner of Cadres a polling firm which has been working with the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) from 1995 to present said that the political issues facing St Kitts and Nevis warrants a general election to resolve them. He further went on to say that whether the elections are held now or later it will not make a difference to the outcome.

Polls in St Kitts over the last 18 months have consistently shown that Douglas has disgraced the office of Prime Minister and that more people want to see him out of office. Polls have shown that of all Members of Parliament, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris is the man preferred by most people, to be our country’s next Prime Minister. Dr Harris has also received the support in writing of 6 of 11 members of Parliament as their choice for Prime Minister. The letter was delivered to the Governor General, Sir Edmund Lawrence.

The illegitimate Douglas regime has repeatedly said that it needed more time to be ready for general elections. At a Labour Rally at Fat Tuesday a few months back Douglas told his rent a crowd that we would not call the elections before his candidates were ready and the new candidates Konris Maynard, Terrence Drew and Vance Gilbert were not ready.

At his Party’s Conference Douglas again appealed for more time, indicating that Lincoln “Contender” Maynard, Party Organizer and Nigel Carty, Deputy Chairman of his failing Party advised him against calling an election.

In March, Douglas told colleague heads of government that he needed 3 more months to get his act together for election. He told them that the new candidates were not yet receiving traction. He needed more time. Peter Wickham however has been conducting regular polls in St Kitts for the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party including polls in Constituency 3, 7 and 8 and the latest was a national poll conducted about May 2014.
That poll offered no comfort to Douglas “as the minority national leader.”The country was very comfortable with Dr the Hon Timothy Harris and his Team Unity.

As a result of consistent poll findings that he would lose the elections Douglas has intensified his ad hominem personal attacks on Team Unity Leader, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris and his Team. Douglas has intensified his aggressive party politicization of state owned media (ZIZ) which is now being run like a Labour Party Radio and TV Station under the chairmanship of Peter Jenkins a well-known Labour Party activist and beneficiary of several contracts from the Labour Government and the government controlled social security board. Peter Jenkins has been cited for bias in the Election Boundaries case. The outcome is being awaited.

We thank Peter Wickham for his forthrightness and candor. Like Mr. Wickham we believe that fresh elections should be called now so that the people can retire this outdated, out of fashion, out of ideas corrupt government. Douglas’ strategy of “wearing out the opposition is not working” and the manipulation of SIDF Slush Funds and the wreckless sale of our passports to scamps and illicit actors have not helped the Douglas Party.
