Young Regional Netballers Vie for 24th OECS/ECCB Under 23 Netball Tournament Title

Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Tuesday 24th 2014 - The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) will collaborate with the OECS Secretariat and the Saint Lucia Netball Association to host the 24th OECS/ECCB Under 23 Netball Tournament in Saint Lucia from 27 June to 3 July.

The ECCB has been the official sponsor of the tournament since 1991, exhibiting its commitment to the physical and social development of the region’s young women and its strong belief in regional integration.

Seven teams will compete in this year’s tournament:  Antigua and Barbuda, The Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and defending champions St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Coach of the St Vincent and the Grenadines’ team, Mr Godfrey Harry says they are coming fully prepared and will not be taking any team lightly. “We will be coming to do what we do best, which is to bring home the winning trophy”, the coach said with confidence.

In 1999, the ECCB incorporated the personal development component into the tournament, with the aim of enhancing the netballers’ interpersonal and professional skills. This year, the ECCB will partner with the First Citizens Investment Services of Saint Lucia to conduct the session on the topic: "Three Essential Wealth Builders for Your 20s and 30s". Ms Priscilla Charles, Business Development Manager of First Citizens will engage the young netballers in a discussion on being budget savvy, practicing smart debt management and saving for their first home and retirement.

The 2014 OECS/ECCB Under 23 Netball Tournament will commence with a candle lighting ceremony on Friday, 27 June at the Government House, Castries.  All the matches will be played at the Vigie Multi-purpose Sports Complex.
