2014 Olympic Day Celebration Activities

Press Release

BASSETERRE, St Kitts - The St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee (SKNOC) continues its 2014 Olympic Day Celebration Activities today, June 27th, by partnering with the GMS/Sun Fest Group, Music Festival Committee, Child Month Committee, Agricultural Department and others to transform Independence Square, downtown Basseterre into a bevy of fun, fellowship and friendship whilst simultaneously incorporating the signature theme of the Olympic Day celebrations, namely, "Move", " Learn", "Discover".

The SKNOC will be featuring the members of the National Table Tennis Team that have been selected to represent St Kitts and Nevis in the Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, on 23rd July to 3rd August, 2014 and the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Nanjing, China from 16th to 28th August, 2014.
The players will be conducting, for the benefit of the public and significant youth population, expected to be on hand, a number of exhibition encounters. A highlight of this occasion will be when the tennis players and members of the public take on the "robot" in tennis contests.
This aspect of involvement from the SKNOC and its Tennis Team is scheduled to start at 3p.m. However, a variety of entertainment, staging of a "Eat Local" Agriculture Fair, Fun Park for Children, the finale of the Child Month Parade and the feature of a number of major national cultural artists will run throughout the day at the same Independence Square venue. All activities are scheduled to commence from as early as 10a.m and run until just prior to the start of the National Music Festival at Warner Park Stadium, scheduled to start at 8p.m
