    -   Young footballing talent on show for the first time in Dominica

Thursday 26th June 2014, Kingston, Jamaica  --  Despite the inclement weather, the team of Chelsea FC Foundation coaches had a fulfilling time training Dominica’s aspiring young footballers at the Digicel Kick Start Clinics where the players displayed a good attitude and technical ability.

Given that this is the first time the Clinic is being held in Dominica, the coaches were excited to see what the boys had to offer – and these boys certainly did not disappoint as they demonstrated a very strong technical ability on the field, much to the delight of the coaches.

International Technical Support Officer for the Chelsea FC Foundation, Steven Winnett, praised the boys by saying; “Right from the start, the boys displayed a good attitude and made us feel welcome, so it was easy for us to get into the training quickly. They were also quite talented and technical on the field and they played a style of football reminiscent of a European style – more than any other country that we have seen thus far.”

Winnett also mentioned the tremendous support he received from the local football association saying; “The officials from the local Dominica Football Association were very enthusiastic having us in Dominica hosting the Digicel Kick Start Clinics and, from the quality of players that we saw at the Clinics, we see that they ensured that only the best 30 boys were selected, which inevitably made our job in picking the top three that much harder.”

In the end, the three lucky boys chosen to go to the Academy were 16 year-old Andrez Joseph, 16 year-old Delroy Parker and 16 year-old Gyles Mitchel along with 16 year-old Quamie Bell.

The Digicel Kick Start Clinics – now in their eighth year – see thousands of aspiring young footballers from across 14 countries in the Caribbean and Central America try out for their chance to travel to the Digicel Academy in Barbados and train under top coaches from Barclays Premier League side, Chelsea FC.

During the week-long Digicel Academy, the top 42 boys from across the region get the chance of a lifetime to receive intensive training under coaches from Barclays Premier League side, Chelsea Football Club.
