SKNDF regaining preeminence in the region

Retired Major Leroy Percival
By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 01, 2014 (SKNIS): Retired Major Leroy Percival has given a vote of confidence for the continued development of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) noting that it is on the way to reclaiming top rankings in the Caribbean.

While addressing persons at the opening of the Junior Non-Commissioned Officers Club on Wheels Bar and Lounge on Monday, Major Percival said the pride and respect within and outside of the organization was growing.

“In the 70’s, we were in a position as one of the best defence forces in the entire Caribbean,” he stated. “We were ranked number three at one stage and we are getting there again.”

The St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force was established in 1896. It was disbanded in 1981, but was reformed in 1997. Percival served the organization from 1968 to 1981. He resumed his military career when it was reestablished before retiring a few years ago completing 41 years of service with the military and police force. During his stint, he served with Patrick Wallace who now commands the SKNDF. Percival credited Lt. Colonel Wallace for his leadership.

“The force has improved tremendously … and I’m not just saying this because we are personal friends and we go way back,” he disclosed. The retired Major stressed that Commander Wallace has always promoted positive initiatives within the organization and this has led to growth of the SKNDF and empowerment of its members.
