BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DIGICEL St. Kitts yesterday (Jul. 1) handsomely rewarded one of its loyal customers when the mobile telecommunications provider held the draw of its ‘Cashback With Digicel’ promotion at its Basseterre Branch on Bank and Fort Streets.

Delroy Boon, an undergraduate teacher of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College had won himself $10 000 after answering his mobile phone when Digicel’s Chief Executive Officer Johnny Ingle made the call shortly after 2:00 p.m.

The Cleverly Hill, Sandy Point resident was lost for words when he answered his mobile phone after his number was randomly drawn from an air mix machine; a machine similar to those used in lottery drawings.

Meanwhile, Digicel’s Marketing Manager Marsha Chatterjee explained to SKNVibes Business what the executive body of that company expected after making a public announcement of the promotion last week.

“Last week when we announced to our Digicel customers that they would have a chance of winning $10 000 for themselves and sharing an additional $5 000, we knew that it would have generated a lot of excitement. And today is just evident of that with the amount of excitement.

“We had a list of numbers from prepaid customers to post paid customers.”

Boon was fortunate to have been declared winner of the promotion, because a number of customers were called by Digicel’s CEO but they did not answer the call.

One individual in particular did answer the call but he did not give his full name to the CEO when asked, and he subsequently terminate the call.

According to the Chatterjee, that person who only gave his name as George would be awarded a consolation prize.

She noted that this is not the final promotion for the company as they already have others on stream and would be introducing more in the near future.

“Well, Cashback continues from Mondays to Fridays. We are rewarding customers daily and there are four simple ways to win when using Digicel. You can either top up your phone with $20 or more, you can activate a 4g plan, pay your bill on time or in full, or make a three-minute Digicel to Digicel call,” Chatterjee explained.

The company would be awarding customers with tickets to the upcoming Limacol Caribbean Premier League (LCPL) during their next major promotion.

Speaking with Boon, who was not present at the draw, SKNVibes Business asked him how he felt on hearing that he had won the $10 000 prize.

“I was surprised and elated! It is a wonderful experience that anybody would love to have. I was told that they had called five or six persons before getting on to me, and I am happy to be the winner.

“I am grateful to Digicel and with the plans that I have for the future, the prize will certainly assist me in achieving some of my set goals. A promotion of this nature will surely enhance Digicel’s image and I will continue to be one of the telecommunications giant’s loyal customers.”

Boon has been in the teaching profession in excess of five years.

He first started teaching at the Basseterre High School and then moved on to St. Paul’s Primary. After spending sometime there, he was transferred to Sandy Point Primary from where he commenced his teacher’s training at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC).

Boon gained his teaching practice at the Charles E. Mills Secondary School and will be among the CFBC graduates at this year’s convocation.
