BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -THE top track and field stars from St. Kitts and Nevis are expected to compete against other regional stars of the sports discipline, as the Federation will be hosting the 2014 OECS Championships this weekend at the Silver Jubilee Stadium.

In an interview with the Public Relations Officer of the SKNAAA, Evris Huggins disclosed how preparations for the two-day meet are progressing.

“Preparations are coming along very well. We have confirmation from all nine members of the OECS that they will be participating.”

He then gave an idea of some of the big names that would be competing.

“We have not received final entries as yet, but we have received nominal entries so far. I can tell you I saw one or two entries that came through for Tortola who will be sending one of their premier sprinters, Tahesia Harrigan. She is a veteran sprinter and I think she will be somebody we can look forward to this weekend. Who will be here from the other countries, I can’t say as yet.

“Team St. Kitts and Nevis will be based on the performances at the National Invitational and Club Championships.”

Huggins is encouraging citizens to come out sporting their national colours as this year’s competition will be a championship as opposed to an invitational.

“I would encourage everybody to come and support team St. Kitts and Nevis because it is no longer an invitational like in previous years. It is now a championship, which means at the end of it you’re going to have bragging rights. So we are looking forward to the support of the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis.”

He also stated that the competition would be held across two days and the medal count system would be used to determine the winner.
