St. Kitts Music Fest beyond successful…says Tourism Authority CEO

By: Javone Vickerie, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IT has been just over a week since the staging of the 18th St. Kitts Music Festival and CEO of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority Raquel Browne claimed that the event was “beyond successful”.

In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes Entertainment, Browne revealed that this year’s mega event was considered one of the most successful since its inception.

“As you know, Friday night of the show was sold out and Thursday night was the best night ever in the history of the 18 years of the Festival. It has been a tremendous success and this would not be possible without the hard work of our volunteers.”

She added that apart from the massive volunteer group, the festival would not have been possible was it not for the overwhelming assistance from the private sector, the Ministry of Tourism, the Committee’s Chairman and Tourism Hon. Richard Skerritt.

“It’s everybody recognising that St. Kitts is on a path for great tourism glory. It’s also amazing that as a destination we were known for a very long time as a quite little storm. We’re a little giant with beautiful things coming from St. Kitts and Nevis,” the CEO said.

Browne also said that this year’s Music Festival had hundreds of volunteers.

“It started with just one person cleaning up every night; and you can’t go without them. You also have the persons behind the scenes who you don’t see that make things happen onstage.”

Browne explained that the St. Kitts Music Festival does not only contract artiste to entertain patrons, but also for them to be entertained by citizens and residents of the Federation.

“It’s bringing people together for three nights and it’s not only artistes coming to entertain the crowds, it’s them coming to be entertained by the people of St. Kitts. One thing I would say is unique about St. Kitts is that we’re very small but we’re very big in our hearts.”

The CEO noted that for the first time in the history of the Music Festival a Meringue singer was in the line-up of performing acts, and that the team would be working on getting other genres of music launched in future shows.

“Even though we have traditional nights, you will find in the upcoming years that we will introduce different artistes from different genres of music just to spice things up a bit and add a bit of flavour.”
