Employee of the Year among Four Seasons’ lay-offs

Glendon Fordyce
By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – GLENDON FORDYCE won the Employee of the Year Award but that did not stop him from getting his marching orders when the Four Seasons’ Resort laid off some 620 workers earlier this week.

Fordyce, who received his dismissal letter on Monday (Mar. 2), was named Employee of the Year 2008 when the Resort held its annual awards ceremony in December. For Fordyce, who was also the Resort’s Employee of the Month for July, it was his second major award after he was named Hotel Employee of the Year by the Ministry of Tourism.

Fordyce told SKNVibes that he is disappointed at being out of a job. He said he is going to use the time he has now to relax for a few weeks and do some work around his yard before looking for a job. The reservist of the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force said he is proud of the nine years he spent with Four Seasons.

The simple awards ceremony held at the Cabana Restaurant also saw Golf Operations Manager Brian Claxton being named Manager of the Year. Claxton, who was the Resort’s Outstanding Manager for the Third Quarter of 2008, was among those retaining their jobs after the entity retained the service of all its managers.

The ceremony featured remarks by Assistant Director of Human Resources Chad James and General Manager Andrew Humphries; the announcement of the winner of the Cafeteria Theme Day Competition, the Employee of the Month for September and October, and the Manager of the Third Quarter.

The laying off of employees comes as the result of the Resort’s inability to recover from the effects of Hurricane Omar last October.
