CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – TWO employees of the Nevis HIV/AIDS Unit recently returned from overseas training courses aimed at boosting the Unit’s functionality.

Surveillance Officer Shana Howell and Monitor and Evaluation Officer Shenel Nisbett were trained in Dominica and Trinidad and Tobago respectively.

Howell spent one month in Dominica where she was trained in Surveillance Techniques and Software. The training will enable her to monitor HIV/AIDS data collection. The knowledge she gained will also help her to analyse data on communicable and non-communicable diseases.

Nisbett was trained between January and April 2008 in a course offered by the Caribbean Health Research Council in Trinidad.

The Nevis HIV/AIDS Prevention Officer, Nadine Caines, told SKNVibes that the training offered was very important. She said the trained staff would be able to facilitate collection and analysis of data, which are the key to progressive programmes.
