By: Caribbean Lottery, Press Release

Newly-equipped computer room aims to boost computer skills of children at  St. Christopher Children’s Home

Cardin Avenue, Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 23, 2014  --  A group of children in St. Kitts, will benefit from the establishment of the GTECH and Caribbean Lottery’s After School Advantage Programme in the nation. The opening ceremony for the programme took place at the St. Christopher Children’s Home on Cardin Avenue in Basseterre.

Caribbean Lottery’s parent company, GTECH is a leading commercial operator and provider of technology in the regulated worldwide gaming markets. The After School Advantage programme is GTECH’s signature corporate philanthropy initiative. Through the After School Advantage Programme, non-profit agencies are provided with well-equipped computer centres to support the educational development of young people aged of 5-18.

St. Christopher Children’s Home will benefit from the donation of six computers, two printers, an overhead projector screen, and computer software. Caribbean Lottery has custom-built secure cabinets for the computer equipment, which will be located in the institution’s existing computer room and library. Children of varying ages and stages of development use these educational rooms.

Speaking on the historic educational partnership between GTECH and St. Kitts, Brendan Hames, Account Development Manager for GTECH Antilles Lotteries expressed:

“We are pleased to be able to equip St. Christopher Children’s Home with computer equipment and software. By giving vulnerable children the tools to access and gain knowledge, it is our hope that this new computer learning center will improve the opportunities for these children to compete and participate in a technology driven world.

The After School Advantage programme is more than a donation, and provides a great opportunity for the company’s technical and non-technical employees to share their time and skills with children who need the help in communities we live and work in.”

Sebastian Mottram, Chairman of St. Christopher Children’s Home & Service League, thanked GTECH for their work at the Home:

“The St. Christopher’s Children’s Home wholeheartedly accepts these gifts of the future from GTECH. We see this partnership as a vote of confidence by Caribbean Lottery and GTECH, that our home will produce the citizens of tomorrow that will contribute greatly to St. Kitts & Nevis in any endeavor that they choose.”

Margaret Stevens, Administrator at St. Christopher Children's Home, also thanked GTECH and Caribbean Lottery, and said, “The children will benefit greatly from the computers and other equipment, as now we will be able to learn in more innovative and entertaining ways.”

GTECH works with more than 235 Afer School Advantage centres globally. Since 2005, the GTECH and its subsidiaries have opened and upgraded 25 After School Advantage locations in the English speaking Caribbean. In Jamaica, there are six GTECH After School Advantage centres.
