Basseterre, St.Kitts (TUCOM) - A Team Unity government will not be bound by any agreement entered into by the outgoing illegitimate Denzil Douglas regime. Team Unity has put the country, regional and international entities on alert, last Thursday 14th August 2014, at a Press Conference convened at its Secretariat on Fort Street, Basseterre.
Drawing on the findings of the learned Judge Justice Darshan Ramdhani, Team Unity’s Leader, and popular Member Of Parliament Dr the Hon Timothy Harris told the media that the February 12th 2014 landmark judgment of Justice Ramdhani made it pellucidly clear that the Douglas regime was operating without constitutional basis and the requisite support of a majority of elected Members Of Parliament.
Justice Ramdhani concluded that in a constitutional democracy like St Kitts and Nevis, when it becomes clear that a majority of Members of Parliament do not support the Prime Minister, his right to govern becomes invalidated and it is imperative that the Motion Of No Confidence be called or fresh elections be held as a matter of urgency. Faced with a sure defeat on the 20 month old Motion Of No Confidence, Douglas has been using unorthodox measures to hold on to power, rather than face a vote in Parliament or fresh elections. People are fed up of 20 year old Douglas regime which is steeped in the old politics of division and victimization.
Dr Harris said that the majority of elected Members of Parliament have already written to the Governor General indicating their lack of support for Prime Minister Douglas, and their support for the Motion Of No Confidence and for Dr Harris as Prime Minister. In that context that thegovernment’s right to govern is invalidated, the Unity government would review all agreements signed since their letter to the Governor General and make a careful determination on what agreements best served the public interest and ought to be honored.
Team Unity is of the view that having regard to the illegitimacy of the government, persons and entities do business with the illegitimate regime at their own risk.
