Basseterre, St.Kitts (Youth of UNITY) -- “The Y.O.U Youth of UNITY Convention is historic.” This was the sentiment of Chairperson of the organizing Committee Attorney Teshari John.
John indicated that the Convention is a milestone not only in the development of the youth arm of Team UNITY but also the development of Youth in Politics in the federation. She explained that the Conference is historic as it will be the first time that the youth arm of three major parties in the federation will come together for an event such as this.
John highlighted the development of the group to this significant milestone with the staging of a Y.O.U Convention this coming Saturday at 1pm at the OOJJ’s Conference Center.
She said “In late 2013 the Youth Leadership of each of the 3 Parties PAM, CCM,PLP, who have formed an alliance called Team UNITY, came together in an effort to form the most significant and historic youth force in the history of the federations politics. We have been active since coming together. Beginning in May we staged or hosted a number of mini town hall meetings which we labelled “Unity Youth Chats” with young persons throughout the federation.
The success of those meetings has inspired us to continue the series where the views of youths will be solicited with an intention for those views and ideas forming the basis for additions or updates to Team UNITY’s Youth Policy. This is just the next step in publicly making our committment to the youth voice in politics and to encourage young people to get involved.”
John continued “We have heard much from the Politicians and because Team Unity has expressed their interest in the Youth perspective we want to encourage all youths to make their voices loud and clear. Its time that we create the politics that we want to see. To bring the issues alive for young people and to give us a chance to say Hey! This what we think!,”
“The Unity Movement is bigger than all of us and we cannot allow this chance for our youth to influence the positive change that is needed across the political landscape to slip by,” John Concluded
The historic convention is expected to feature three keynote speakers including Team UNITY Candidate and PAM Deputy Leader Jonel Powell along with St.Vincent and the Grenadines Senator Vynnette Frederick and Trinidad and Tobago Social Activist and Media Personality Sherwin Williams. The conference begins at 1pm and is expected to culminate at 5pm.
