CADES BAY, Nevis - ANIMAL lovers had more than their fair share of fun when the Animal Rescue Centre (ARK) Humane Society held its fundraiser at the Sunset Beach Grill on Sunday, March 8.

The annual event is a unique forum where society members and guests mingle and enjoy delicious purchased meals. Raffle tickets are also a common feature. Proceeds go towards ensuring that animals’ welfare, especially pets, is safeguarded.

The event is also a forum where guests and members take their pets, including those that were rehabilitated from being strays, to show off whatever skills they may have.

Some pets turned out to be great entertainers, as it was with Mary Ann Virant’s Moxie challenging anyone to a variety of games.

Children also found Evelyn Peter’s two goats great company. Evelyn, who has fostered five goats and a lamb, told SKNVibes that her billy goat was a stray young kid when she found it.

Sunday’s event also attracted a few celebrities including Broadway composer Waldman Robert.

Within all the fun and frolic, the ultimate goal of the event is to raise funds and create an awareness of to the society’s efforts to ensure that animals receive better care. The 150-member society exists to ensure that the welfare of animals becomes everybody’s agenda.

The society is comprised of a group of volunteers who work toward the protection and welfare of all animals on Nevis. Some members told SKNVibes that they would have loved to see more locals at the event.

The island’s veterinarian, Patricia Bartlette who was at the event, said she appreciates efforts being made by the society and called on Nevisians to support it.
