BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WHAT began in 2011 as a small one-day party, has matured into a renowned festival infamous for its entertainment, food and ambiance. And with a recent launch, plans are well underway for the hosting of the eagerly-anticipated week-long Latin Festival 2014.

The Latin Festival week – which is packed full of entertainment goodies – commences on October 20 and runs through to October 26.

Held at the St. Kitts Marriott on Wednesday (Aug. 27), the launch whet the appetites of current and potential sponsors and potential attendees by feeding them with an array of entertainment appetizers.

The idea of a Latin Fiesta was birthed by Chairman of the Latin Festival Jose Rosa and owner of Spice Mill, Roger Brisbane as a one-day event held at that venue. However rapid growth of the Festival resulted in it being shifted to the St. Kitts Marriott beach and last year’s event saw patronage of approximately 3,900 individuals.

In providing information on exciting activities planned for the week, the Latin Festival’s Entertainment Coordinator Aiduleik Rodriguez, spoke of a Red Carpet Inauguration Ceremony, a Latin Festival downtown warmup, two movie presentations, a dance workshop, a Latin Fever night and an Art Gallery and Art Workshop.

And of course, he said the week would conclude with a bang with the Latin Fiesta which takes place on October 26 at the St. Kitts Marriott beach, to feature Plena Libre, Limi-T21, Greenhouse Band and Havana Compass Folkloric Group. Other features of that event include special giveaways, a raffle and a dance competition.

Chairman Rosa said the festival was envisioned to “enhance the cultural experience of this country and be part of all the important celebrations…” with the objectives of emphasizing “the similarities we have between different Caribbean and Latin American countries…” He said the understanding of our African roots mixed with our cultural experiences is what the Festival promotes.

A Food and Domino Festival, which is a pre-Festival fund-raising family event, has been planned for tomorrow (Aug. 30). It is to take place at the TDC Grounds and according to Michelle Demming, Director of the Latin Festival, it promises to boast elements which all members of the family can enjoy, including a bounding castle and latin and local cuisine. And there are prizes to be won.

The Festival has attracted several sponsors including partners Kajola Kristada and St. Kitts Marriott Hotel.

Confetti… great food… good company… excellent entertainment… fireworks… beverages… ambiance… prizes… The Latin Fiesta “Celebration” promises to provide an experience that is second to none and that patrons will not soon forget.
