BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, MARCH 9TH 2009 (CUOPM) – A new early childhood education policy is to be implemented over the next two years.
Cabinet has reviewed and approved the new policy following a national consultation held in St. Kitts and Nevis, and was created to respond to the need to improve the quality of and level of access to early childhood education in the federation.
As a critical component of the early childhood education policy, targets have been set to provide early education services to all working parents in all communities in St. Kitts.
“This, the government believes, will help break the cycle of poverty in poor families and poor communities,” said Minister of State for Information, Sen. the Hon. Nigel Carty.
He said under the new early childhood policy, support will be given to private providers of early childhood education so that they can expand their services and improve the quality of such services.
Sen. Carty said the Government has set a timeline of 2009-2011 for the implementation of the new early childhood education policy.
