BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE individuals have reportedly been taken into police custody assisting with investigations into the murder of teenager Shante Claxton but charges have yet to be laid.

SKNVibes understands that one individual was picked up by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) on the same day that the incident occurred (Sept. 6), one was reportedly picked up the following day and sometime this week, the third individual was reportedly taken into police custody.

This publication also understands that one of the individuals has since been released from the police’s custody.

Press and Public Relations Officer to the RSCNPF Inspect Lyndon David confirmed that three individuals were indeed taken into their custody and one has since been discharged.

Asked if any charged have been laid, the Inspector said the last time he checked, none had been.

Inspector David was also asked about the alleged submission of a confession regarding the incident and he indicated that, “That aspect is still part of that investigation and to comment on an active investigation, I will not do that…”

Claxton’s body is rumoured to have been discovered by one of her relatives on Saturday afternoon in or near the bathroom of the St. Thomas Primary School in Nevis. She had reportedly left for church earlier that day and when she had not returned by a specific time, a search ensued.

The incident sparked wide-spread concern and outcry with persons - including the Deputy Premier of Nevis the Hon. Mark Brantley, former Premier of Nevis the Hon. Joseph Parry, Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and Commissioner of Police Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn – decrying and describing it as “heinous” and “horrific”.

Inspector David has joined with these in calling on those individuals who may have information about the incident to divulge it to the police.

“We as a Police Force are always asking persons to assist us with investigations whenever any crime has taken place, especially one of this nature where life has been taken. We are asking the public to give any information they may have to us to help with solving this crime. Persons can anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 to give the information.”

The PRO said other means can be utilised in passing on the information anonymously including writing a letter to the Commissioner of Police or calling one of the police stations.
