BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER 10TH 2014 (CUOPM) - A national effort to improving the way doing business in St. Kitts and Nevis will be held here on Thursday 11th September.
“Formulate a Strategic Plan for Improving the Ranking for St. Kitts & Nevis in the World Bank’s Annual ‘Doing Business Report’ continues when the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs hosts a workshop from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.
The main purpose of this workshop is to seek feedback from a sampling of key stakeholders in the design of policies and processes.
Five areas that are to be given critical attention are (1) Establishment of a ‘Doing Business’ Reform Committee; (2) Registering Property; (3) Getting Credit; (4) Enforcing Contracts and (5) Resolving Insolvency.
The Ministry of International Trade said the research project follows a request made last year by the Federal Cabinet to the new Minister of International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Sen. the Hon. Richard “Ricky” Skerritt, to urgently address the key issues that still provide challenges to the ‘Doing Business’ environment in St. Kitts and Nevis.
At Thursday’s workshop, the Ministry’s project Consultant, Michael Julien, will present his findings from recently conducted stakeholder consultations. The workshop will finalise recommendations which will lead to reforms needed to improve the country’s performance on those specific indicators which have continued to impact negatively on the comparative performance of the Federation.
This project is being funded jointly by ‘Compete Caribbean’ and the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis.
