Basseterre, St.Kitts (TUCOM):- Nationals and well-wishers of St. Kitts and Nevis had a delightful and engaging experience to dialogue with the Leader of Team Unity and the next Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris and his deputy Hon Shawn Richards. The two member delegation on Thursday 11 September, brought nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis up to date regarding the urgent state of developments in St. Kitts and Nevis, the plans of Team Unity to usher in a new era of growth, development and prosperity for the betterment of our beloved country and people.
The meeting in Washington DC was the second Town Hall put on by the incoming Team Unity government since September 6th. Attendees saw first hand why the their fellow Kittitians and Nevisians are supporting Team UNITY. Dr. Harris and Mr. Richards clearly articulated the many challenges that are ahead. However, there was also a clear vision on how to bring prosperity to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
A packed hall of nationals from Washington, Virginia and New York gathered at the Wholistic Services Inc conference room in downtown Washington, DC, to get first hand reports from Team Unity’s leadership and to offer their ideas for developments of St. Kitts and Nevis and express their concerns over the Douglas regime. Nationals expressed strong disappointment and condemnation over the diminution of the value of our passport and citizenship by the Douglas cabal, the politicization of the institutions of the state, the disrespectful conduct of the Governor General, the deterioration of health care and the hardship of our people generally. Nationals also expressed deep concern for the unemployment and underemployment crisis as well as the poverty rate which is 33 percent. One out of every three Kittian and Nevisian live in poverty.
They were heartened by the social and economic turnaround plan of TEAM articulatedby both Dr Harris and Mr. Richards. There were people who identified with PLP, PAM and CCM. However, they came together to support Team UNITY. The gathering recommitted themselves for the improvement in the quality of life of all Kittitians and Nevisians and to support the election of a team Unity government.
The meeting was organized by Lenford Lloyd, Gregory Gumbs and Dave “Bingo” Benjamin. It was a resounding success. Among several prominent Kittitians and Nevisians in attendance were Former Honorary Consul Alva Pemberton, Dr Irvin Sweeney, Executive Director, Camden County College and Dr Everson Hull, Economist former Advisor to President Reagan and former Economics Professor at Howard University.
