BASSSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Denzil Douglas-led administration is facing a third Motion of No Confidence (MoNC) which was filed by Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition on Monday (Sept. 15).

Leader of Team Unity Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris made the announcement in a media statement which he released yesterday (Sept. 16).

“Accordingly in keeping with our commitment to fight for our people, in keeping with my personal pledge to work full time every day, 24/7 on behalf of the people – fighting for their justice, their democracy, their upliftment and their prosperity for all our people, my colleagues and I have determined that it is propitious at this time, when we are focusing on our journey from colonialism to independence, our people’s aspirations for better life in the land of their birth, that we should move a new Motion of No Confidence. We do this in the people’s interest. “

Harris added that Team Unity has the “stamina and courage” to fight in order to preserve the democracy that was established by our forefathers.

“This is the first Motion of No Confidence (MONC) filed since the celebrated judgment of Justice Ramdhani on 12 February 2014. That vindicated us. That judgment crystallized our constitutional right to bring the MONC and to have it debated as a matter of priority to other business.

“Accordingly we are doing the right thing and we have the stamina and courage to run the course, and to fight the good fight to preserve the people’s representative democracy achieved by the blood, sweat and tears of our forefathers.”

The Opposition Parliamentarian also claimed that at the end of the day, they will be on the good side of history while his opponents would be remembered for the wrong reasons.

“History will applaud our consistent efforts to defend our people’s human rights, our people’s interests and the good name and respect of our country. History will record that we used every instrument available to us to achieve desirable outcomes for our beloved people.

“Equally history will condemn the desperate cowardly act of an executive that is ruling without constitutional basis, an executive that us making a mockery of parliament and our people.  That executive’s time has come and it may do as many antics, but it has to go for the betterment of the people.

“Our country is going through a serious and unprecedented crisis of governance. We in Team Unity have pledged to do all in our power to expose executive abuse, corruption and blatant failure of the illegal government that has brought major hardships on the people.”

The first Motion of No Confidence was filed by Leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition the Hon. Mark Brantley on December 11, 2012 and the second in July, 2013 by the Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Number Five, the Hon. Shawn Richards. Both are yet untabled and debated.
