BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE St. Kitts and Nevis Senior men’s National Football team have climbed 42 places to 117 in the latest FIFA rankings, following a top-place finish in Group Six of the 2014 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Men’s Caribbean Cup.

The Sugar Boyz won the group with seven points from three games, with two wins and a draw, scoring seven goals without conceding.

The St. Kitts and Nevis National Team also moved up to 6th position in the CFU, up to the 13th  position in CONCACAF and currently lie ahead of the likes of Haiti, Cuba and Canada.

In an interview with SKNVibes, the General Secretary of the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association – Stanley Jacobs - was pleased with the team’s advancement.

“We are definitely pleased with our improvement in the rankings. It is a step in the right direction…it has been a part of our mandate to improve the rankings and create opportunities for our players.”

He however stated that the job is not yet completed as they aim to rank below 100.

“The job is not done as yet we are still looking to achieve our goal of falling below 100…but we are pleased with this latest ranking.”

He also stated that this was a good foundation for the National side before the next cycle of World Cup Qualifiers.

The Benner Boyz of Antigua and Barbuda were the highest ranked CFU team as they finished on the top of Group Five.

The Antiguans and Barbudans are also ranked eighth in CONCACAF.

World Cup Champions Germany however, remain on top of the rankings despite losing a friendly to fellow World Cup Finalist Argentina.

The Sugar Boyz are also expected to travel to Haiti to participate in the second round of the CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup on October 8, 10 and 12. They will face Barbados, French Guiana and Haiti.
