BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PANDEMONIUM broke out at the Joseph N. France General Hospital this evening (Sept. 22) when brazen gunmen entered the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department and opened fire, striking a young man multiple times about his body.
Police say the incident occurred just about 7:50p.m.
Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Lyndon David confirmed to SKNVibes that the victim was seeking treatment at the A&E Department when two gunmen entered and launched an attack on him.
He informed that the injured man – whose name he said would not be released at this time – was rushed into surgery.
Investigations made by this publication revealed that the shooting may have stemmed from an incident which occurred earlier today in which the victim suffered injury.
And while he was seeking medical attention at the A&E this evening, one gunman entered the Department and opened fired and made his exit. In quick time, SKNVibes understands, the second gunman entered the Department and opened fire, also making good his exit.
Though there was one casualty, the incident caused others who were in the Department to run in fear for their lives and in an attempt to take cover from the assailants’ fury.
SKNVibes understands that following the incident, a number of Police Officers and Defence Force soldiers were combing through the surrounding areas in search of the perpetrators.
Inspector David said the incident is being investigated and persons having information about it are asked to contact either the nearest police station or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-8477.
