Tuesday, September 23, 2014 - Students pursuing an education in the Virgin Islands education system are being encouraged to start thinking about opening their own businesses in the future, as they plan their careers.

Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE in an address at the Ministry of Education and Culture’s 8th Annual Back to School Church Service, .urged the students to be their own managers and turn their passions and dreams into successful business ventures.

He encouraged parents and guardians to support the Territory’s teachers to ensure their children’s success. He said parents should meet regularly with teachers and teach their children to respectfully engage with their classmates as well as their instructors.

Premier Smith also had some words of advice for the teachers. “As teachers, you hold the future of our society in your hands and you are responsible for shaping impressionable minds.” He outlined, adding, “Your direction and council will lay the foundation for our future leaders, your role as a teacher is helping us to build a better Virgin Islands.”
