Police Press Release 29-09-2014

Press Release

Basseterre St. Kitts, 2014 - The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force in response to negative propaganda being espoused by some persons with regard to the background and qualifications of Commissioner CG. Walwyn to lead the police force to publicly displays his CV for public consumption:

Curriculum Vitae of Commissioner C.G. Walwyn

Kittitian-born, Commissioner C.G. Walwyn’s American law enforcement career began as a Law Enforcement Explorer in 1973 in St. Croix, having lived there since he was 13 years of age (in 1970). He moved to Houston, Texas at age 22 and spent the years 1985 to 2011 in Florida and Texas Law Enforcement.

The Commissioner's assignments in Texas included Texas Peace Officer, Texas Police Chief, Harris County Deputy Sheriff working special investigations with Federal agencies such as the FBI, DEA, ATF, ICE, and as an In-Service Instructor to over 3,000 Harris County Sheriff Deputies. In Orlando his assignments as an Orange County Deputy Sheriff included serving as a detective with the Sexual Offender Surveillance Unit in the Major Case Section of the Special Operations and Investigations Division. The Commissioner was also one of the original patrol deputies assigned to the newly-created 55-man Orange County Sheriff’s Office Walt Disney World Tourism Policing Unit before retiring in August 2011 to accept his present position. The experience gained at Walt Disney World was instrumental in developing law enforcement strategies in the tourist-based economy of St. Kitts and Nevis. The Commissioner has never burned a law enforcement bridge and the Federation is now reaping the benefits of those relationships with the establishment of Sister Law Enforcement Agencies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Orlando, Florida and Harris County Sheriff’s Office in Houston, Texas.

Commissioner Walwyn’s efforts in making his community safe for all residents and visitors alike did not begin in the Federation; he was recognized for his efforts by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office as the Deputy of the Month in 2010/2009/2008/2007/2006/2005/2003, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Deputy of the Year in 2010/2007/2006/2005, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Deputy of the Year in 1998, Letters of Commendation from both the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the Immigrations Customs and Enforcement (ICE) for Outstanding Criminal Investigations, and the 100 Club-Ft. Bend County Officer of the Year in 1989.

In October 2011, Commissioner Walwyn was awarded the Difference Maker Award at the 25th Anniversary of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) Law Enforcement and Prosecutor Awards Ceremony in Tallahassee, Florida. The award is issued to Law Enforcement Officers (LEO) in Florida who make a difference in saving lives through traffic enforcement in the State of Florida. In 2013 Commissioner Walwyn was invited to the 82 Anniversary of the Mexican Federal Police by the Commissioner General of Mexico who publicly recognized him for the outstanding change in law enforcement they have observed in St. Kitts and Nevis under his leadership.

Commissioner Walwyn has completed the classroom requirements for a PhD in Public Safety-with a concentration in Leadership; he holds a Masters Degree in Security Management-with a concentration in Homeland Security, and Bachelor’s Degrees in both Criminal Justice and Theology. The Commissioner is also the author of a police training manual used by Texas Police Officers.

Commissioner Walwyn is presently a member of The Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police (ACCP), American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, AMERIPOL, and the 2014-2015 Chairman of the Commissioners of Police and Military Chiefs (CPMC).
