World Teachers’ Day will be celebrated on October 5

Press Release

World Teachers’ Day will be celebrated on October 5, the date on which in 1966, a special inter-governmental conference adopted the UNESCO recommendation concerning the status of teachers. Celebrated in over 100 countries, World Teachers' Day acknowledges the efforts of teachers in an increasingly complex, multicultural and technological society.

This auspicious day was inaugurated by UNESCO in 1994 to focus attention on the contributions and achievements of teachers and to highlight teachers’ concerns and priorities in education.  The day provides an opportunity for students, parents and the community to demonstrate their appreciation for the contributions that teachers are making to their community.

This year the theme is: Invest in the future, Invest in Teachers.

To commemorate the day, the St.Kitts-Nevis National Commission for UNESCO hereby solicit your assistance as media practitioners in giving recognition to our teachers across the Federation and around the world as part of your programming.

     This may be done by:

    1. Discussing the important role that teachers’ play in the educational development of students at home and abroad. Suggested topics          for discussion include:
    • Teachers continuous professional development
    • Pedagogical innovations in Education
    • How IT can support teachers
           2.     Airing a press release on the theme from the St.Kitts-Nevis National Commission for   UNESCO.

We thank you for your kind consideration in addressing our requests and we look forward to future collaboration with you.
