October 2, 2014 - Jonel Powell and Samal Duggins contribute to youth in sport through Inaugural Independence Basketball Classic
The first ever St. Kitts & Nevis Independence Basketball Classic was held in the Federation between September 13th to September 20thThe exciting event featured top UK based team Midnight Madness playing a series of games against a number of local teams including the Reach One Teach One Select Basketball Team, Nevis Island SelectTeam, SKABA Premier Division Champions I Rep Challengers Exodus and the Bird Rock Uprisers Basketball Club .
The event provided the basketball players from the U.K. the opportunity to engage in a number of coaching activities, to scout for basketball talent in the Federation, and to build long lasting relationships with the basketball fraternity through donations of sporting equipment to the Reach One Teach One Basketball Group.
The productive week culminated with a presentation of the following awards which were donated by two of the Federation’s youth activists in Entrepeneur Samal Duggins and Attorney and Team UNITY Candidate Jonel Powell. The awards were as follows :
• Jonel Powell Tournament Most Valuable Player Award: Nashorn Maynard St. Kitts
• Jonel Powell Tournament Top Scorer Award: Nasharn Maynord St. Kitts
• Samal Duggins Most Valuable Player Midnight Madness UK team Award: Sam Toluwase
• Samal Duggins Most Rebounds for the Tournament Award: Maxwell Morrison Midnight Maddness UK team
• Powell/Duggins Most Valuable Player Team Nevis select Award : Justin Beale
• Special participation award in the St. Kitts & Nevis Independence Basketball Classic; Midnight Madness UK Team
