Minister For Overseas Territories James Duddridge MP To Visit BVI October 7-8

    Monday, October 6, 2014 - Mr. James Duddridge MP, the new United Kingdom Minister for the Overseas Territories, will be visiting the British Virgin Islands from October 7 to 8.

     

    This will be his first visit to an Overseas Territory since taking up his post in August and his first visit to BVI.

     

    While he is here, the Minister will have meetings with the Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE and Cabinet and the financial services sector.   He will also visit Virgin Gorda to hold discussions on the tourism sector. 

    Speaking ahead of his trip, Mr. Duddridge said:
    “I am really delighted to be visiting the British Virgin Islands, which will be my first trip to a territory since starting my new role as Minister for the Overseas Territories.

    I look forward to meeting the Honourable Premier and hearing his plans for BVI’s future.

    The BVI is an important global financial services centre and I am looking forward to hearing how BVI is addressing the challenges of combating illicit finance and tax evasion”

    Premier Smith said:
    “We in the BVI value the relationship between the UK and its Overseas Territories. We are keen to continue working together in partnership. I look forward to meeting Mr. Duddridge and to solidifying the support that will result in the continued growth of the Virgin Islands.”

    The Minister will visit Montserrat on Thursday, October 9.
