Press Release

Basseterre, St.Kitts (YOUcom):- It was a GOOD DAY on Friday 17th October 2014 at the Cotton Thomas Comprehensive School when members of the West Basseterre (Constituency #3) Chapter of Youth of Unity (Y.O.U.) paid a special visit to the institution, which caters to children with special needs.

The morning’s assembly provided the perfect backdrop for the brief ceremony which culminated with a presentation by the youth group of four (4) large standing fan

Youth Activist and Entrepreneur Samal Duggins, who made the formal presentation on behalf of the group, explained that the group was moved to make a donation to the school as a result of a series of discussions with a number of parents who expressed frustration concerning the condition of the school- in particular the heat generated within the classrooms. Duggins stated “It is my understanding that many of the students at the school suffer from epilepsy which is sometimes triggered by the hot conditions of the classroom therefore members of Youth of Unity in Constituency 3 felt compelled to make this donation. He added “this donation is indicative of a change in the mindset of our nation’s youth. We as young people recognize that we don’t have to wait on our nations politicians to make a difference in our communities and our country. After all a small gesture can go a very long way”

The school’s principal, Charmaine Blanchette expressed her gratitude on behalf of the school and reiterated how important the donation was to the well being of the school’s children. Duggins assured her that the gift was just the first in a number of contributions that Y.O.U.  Intended to make to the school. He revealed that Y.O.U.’s next venture would be to tile the school’s early stimulation Centre.
Following the brief ceremony members of Y.O.U.  had the opportunity to interact with the students as well as the staff of the school.
Y.O.U wishes to express gratitude to all parties who made this donation possible.
