A proposed amendment to the National Assembly Elections Act, will make provisions for the Supervisor of Elections the power to allow members of the St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force and the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services to vote two days prior to a general election.
The National Assembly Elections (Amendment) Bill, 2014, also allow nurses, doctors and prison officers to vote early.
The Bill also includes an amendment which gives the Supervisor of Elections, the power to appoint two poll clerks for every polling station in a constituency for the purpose of assisting a presiding officer at a polling station.
A new section proposes the appointment of one of the poll clerks to assume the role of a presiding officer who dies or becomes incapable of performing his or her duties.
