Roadtown, Tortola  - Thirteen security guards attached to Government’s Facilities Management Unit received certificates of completion following an intensive two-week training course that concluded with a ceremony on Friday, 13th March at the Central Administration Complex.

According to Security Supervisor, Mr. Dennis Rawlins, “things have changed world-wide and locally, and security personnel must be aware of what is happening.” Mr. Rawlings also encouraged the officers to be focused, vigilant and always be on guard.

The course was facilitated by Mr. Steven Hill, a retired Police Chief and President of Security Staffing Solutions in Orlando, Florida.  “The training course was very tough; we did not take it easy on them,” Mr. Hill said. He also encouraged the officers to continue training. “Security is serious business and at the end of the day you all must go home the way you came.”

During the training, the officers were exposed to self-defence, take-down techniques, drug identification, dealing with disturbed persons, violence in the workplace and customer relations.

The officers received certificates of completion in security officer training, advance security officer training, CPR and use of force. Acting Facilities Manager, Mrs. Cheryl Mathavious, congratulated all the officers on the completion of the rigorous training and encouraged them to put into practice what they learned.

The security division is committed to keeping the Central Administration Building and surrounding areas safe and secure for employees and visitors.
