Rapha’s Touch: When a nursing home is just not enough

Proprietor Rapha’s Touch, Cavel Flemming-Gumbs
By: VonDez Phipps, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SERVING the Federation for almost six years, Rapha’s Touch Professional Homecare Services has been committed to transforming the homecare landscape in the nation as it offers a multiplicity of services for the both the young and old.

It is not the ordinary nursing service where the elderly and terminally-ill are removed from their homes to a remote abode, rather, Rapha’s Touch takes an unparalleled standard of care to the its clients’ locales, making it a more comfortable experience for the elderly and an ease on the guardian. The company offers specialized care to in-home clients whether ill, disabled or aged and offers private nursing services for hospitalized clients.

Additional to personal care and home-making services, the business offers personal assistance, companionship and sitting services as well as baby nurse and certified nurse services. It also provides a Sunrise/Sunset package which gives care in the morning and evening, and a Clinical Therapy package which offers massage therapy, physiotherapy and beautification services.

Proprietor Cavel Flemming-Gumbs told SKNVibes that she strongly believes that God is able to heal and comfort the sick; a philosophy which led her to fulfil her passion in April 2003 by establishing Rapha’s (The God that heals) Touch. She informed that her small yet certified staff, based in Bird Rock Extension, is fully equipped to serve the needs of its clients.

“The advantages of this type of service are numerous. Our services are personal as we take our care into their homes. We also cater to the spiritual development of our clients; we do daily devotionals, comfort our clients with songs and the scripture and pray for healing. Plus, many persons prefer that their relatives stay at home so that they can see them everyday and avoid the hassle of visiting a nursing home.

“As we perform our duties on a daily basis and we continue putting forward our best, our customers continue to speak highly of our services to their family and friends. We are hoping that through the difference we are making, other similar businesses would follow. Our business, as small as it is, has expanded the available services in St. Kitts; services which have made positive impacts on many and have received overwhelming feedback.”

Flemming-Gumbs, who is a registered nurse specialized in midwifery and fitness and nutrition, said the business is a major part of her life as healthcare is her passion. She indicated that she had dreams about starting the business and she felt it became part of her destiny adding that starting the business has been like the sea, “sometimes calm and then sometimes rough waves, but with the help of God I’m still sailing”.

Flemming-Gumbs said the business is making positive strides as it looks toward expanding its clientele and enhancing its services. She added that when a nursing home is just not enough, the experience of Rapha’s Touch can be the life-changing moment for your loved one.
