Basseterre, St.Kitts (TUCOM):- Well over 300 persons packed the hall and surrounding area of the Sandy Point Community Center for another in a series of Townhall Meetings staged by Team UNITY and dubbed the UNITY Listening Tour.
The atmosphere was high spirited, electrifying, politically charged and enthusiastic from the onset with prayers and the singing of the National Anthem. The politically aloft audience soon learnt that the incumbent; HonShawn Richards was celebrating ten (10) years of committed and dedicated service. This news caused the already charged atmosphere to fire up even more.
The meeting of mainly constituents of St.Christopher #5 was chaired by the dynamic Team UNITY representative for Central Basseterre Attorney Jonel Powell . Powell facilited three exceptional presentations from Lindsay Grant, Team Unity’s candidate for St Christopher 4, Hon Shawn Richards Parliamentary Representative for St Christopher 5, and Team Unity’s Leader and popular representative for St Christopher 7 the Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris
Attorney Lindsay Grant lamented the continued manipulation of the voters list by the Douglas regime and expressed the situation as a grave threat to democracy in the federation . Grant declared however that he is confident that the people in constituency #4 will vote for the representative and the representation they deserve and put their overwhelming trust and confidence in him.
The evening which also doubled as a 10th Anniversary Celebration for the Hon Shawn Richards saw the long time parliamentarian being presented with gifts and showered with much love and blessings by his constituents and members of the audience.
Several presentations were made to the Hon Shawn Richards commending him of his untouchable stewardship, astute leadership, and his stellar representation that counts. It was obvious that Sandy Point is Shawn’s City.
Richards took the opportunity at the townhall to highlight his ten year stewardship as the representative for Sandy Point/Fig Tree. He outlined a plethora of actions and activities he has orchestrated and led on behalf of and for the betterment of the people of Sandy Point/fig Tree whom he represents ably and proudly as was exhibited with the overwhelming outpouring of love and appreciation by his constituents on his 10th anniversary. . He spoke about his persistent lobbying to the government for improvement in infrastructure in the community . He declared that one of his first priorities in the historic team UNITY government is the return of over 500 acres of land to the people of Sandy Point/Fig Tree , that was given away by the Douglas regime in it’s infamous land for debt swap arrangement .
Team Unity’s Leader, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris was as dynamic and inspiring as ever. He outlined and reiterated his commitment to ushering a new era of openness, transparency and accountability. He reminded the hundreds in the audience and the thousands via WINN FM and Sugar City FM of Team Unity’s programme for repairing the economy, bringing sustainable growth, placing young people into decent jobs, reducing student loans, making mortgages affordable, removing VAT from food, medicine and funeral expenses, abolishing fees for pre schools and supporting farmers and small and middle size enterprises.
The next in the series of Listening Tours goes to Halfway Tree on Thursday October 30th at 8pm . Attorney Lindsay Grant , the well respected Team UNITY representative for the people of St Christopher 4 will be joined by Hon. Shawn Richards, Hon. Sam Condor, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris and other members of Team Unity in bringing Unity’s Prosperity Agenda for public discussion and support and also to hear from the people.
