BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE mood has now been set for another Sugar Mas celebration as the slogan, jingle and calendar of events were launched on Friday evening (Oct. 31) in Basseterre.
The winning slogan was announced as “Join the Fun and Revelry its Sugar Mas 43” which was coined by Jaiida Sutton of Sandy Point. The jingle winner was announced as Nadia Berridge-Williams.
While announcing the Sugar Mas 43 calendar at the launch ceremony, Sylvester Anthony disclosed that most of the activities would be heading back to Carnival Village.
“Let me tell you first of all we are going back to Carnival Village so I am not going to announce the venues because most of the Carnival events will take place at Carnival Village.”
The calendar includes the official opening on November 21, Soca Monarch Semi-finals on December 5, two island-wide bar crawls on December 13 and January 3, Senior Calypso Monarch Semi-Finals on December 14, Soca Monarch Semi-Final on December 19, J’ouvert on December 26 and National Carnival Queen Pageant on December 28 followed the next day by the Senior Calypso Monarch finals.
The Grand Carnival Parade will be on January 1 with the Last Lap the following Day.
Returning to the calendar is the best of the Rest Calypso Show on December 16. Another change to the calendar will see a separation of the Talented Teen Pageant from the Junior Calypso Show. The Talented Teen Pageant will be held on December 20 while the Junior Calypso show will be paired with a steel pan competition on December 23.
Anthony also announced that they have partnered with a number of private events some of which are, In the Spirit of Christmas, Cooler Fete and Inception.
Minister of Culture the Hon. Marcella Liburd officially launched Sugar Mas 43 and commended all who were responsible for putting on the event.
Also on showcase last evening was the DFX Mas camp who revealed their Sky is the Limit package for Parade and Phunn Vybz Mas Camp unveiled their Birds of a feather costumes.
