UPDATE: One in custody following fatal shooting

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Nov. 2 (3:43p.m.) - A press release issued by the police today (Nov. 2) indicated that one person is in their custody in relation to the fatal shooting of bus driver Kevin ‘Broadie’ Newman.

     

    “Following the fatal shooting incident along the Island's Main at White Gate, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force acted on tips which lead to one person being taken into police custody to assist with the investigation, sometime after 1:00 AM this morning.”

     

    The communique also relayed condolences from the Commissioner of Police Celvin C. G. Walwyn and his organisation to those grieving over Newman’s death. 

     

    "Commissioner CG Walwyn takes this opportunity on behalf of his family, and the entire Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force extends sincere sympathies and condolences to the bereaved family and friends of the late Kevin Newman." 

     

    Nov. 2 (7:00a.m.) - THE bus driver who was shot and killed last evening (Nov. 1) has been identified as Kevin Newman.

     

    He was affectionately known as 'Broadie'.

     

    The police have indicated that they are investigating the circumstances of his death however, it is being suggested that he was shot and killed during a robbery attempt which occurred along the stretch of road between St. Pauls and Dieppe Bay (the White Gate area). 

     

    Nov. 2 (12:21a.m.) - POLICE officers were summoned to the scene of an incident last night (Nov. 1) which occurred along the western corridor of the island, leaving one individual dead.

     

    SKNVibes understands that the deceased is a bus driver who, while plying the route along the stretch of road between St. Pauls and Dieppe Bay (the White Gate area) was shot and killed.

     

    Details remain sketchy at this point but this publication understands that the incident occurred sometime after 9:00p.m. and the deceased – whose name has not been released by the police – succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

     

    Public Relations Officer to the Police Force Inspector Lyndon David told SKNVibes, “we are currently looking at a number of things but it is too early to say certain things. All I can say is that we are investigating an incident in which someone succumbed to their injuries on the scene.”

     

    He also confirmed that the individual was driving a bus which has the words “Black Beauty” written across its front.

     

    This incident registers the Federation’s 15th homicide for the year.

     

    Investigations are ongoing.
