Press Release

Monday, November 3, 2014The Government of the Virgin Islands continues to align its services with the digital era, and is announcing the launch of its e-Government Web site in December.

According to Director of Communications, Mrs. Arliene T. Penn, www.bvi.gov.vg is currently being transformed and will be the central point of access to the services that Government’s ministries, departments and units provide to the public.

Mrs. Penn said that the transformation is driven by the theme: ‘One Government, One Web site, One Online Presence’. The Web site is designed to give users access to services, news and information from one central location.

Mrs. Penn explained that this initiative is being completed in two phases. The first phase which is being launched in December will focus on access to content. Phase two will commence in January 2015 and will enable customers to conduct transactions and payments for services online.

“Currently, there are several different Web sites housed at different ministries, departments and units. We want to ensure that Government has one official online presence, not many. We want one look and feel when navigating the Web site,” the director stated.

Mrs. Penn added that citizens, businesses, visitors and public officers, locally and abroad, should be able to access, navigate and interact with Government through one site: www.bvi.gov.vg.

Mrs. Penn explained that Member for House of Assembly and Eight District Representative, Honourable Marlon A. Penn has been spearheading this initiative on behalf of Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE.

Honourable Penn is chairman of the e-Government steering committee, which is inclusive of permanent secretaries, the financial secretary and some heads of department. He has been working diligently with the technical, content and services subcommittees to bring the project to fruition.

The Department of Information Technology has been leading the charge in transforming www.bvi.gov.vg, along with web administrators from the Ministry of Finance and the Department of Information and Public Relations.

The Government of the Virgin Islands remains committed to providing the people of the Territory with effective online services designed to improve the efficiency of its operations and customer service.
