BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 4TH 2014 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis has congratulated Brazil’s President Her Excellency Dilma Rouseff on her re-election victory following presidential elections on Sunday.
“This victory clearly indicates resonance of the Workers’ Party with the masses; and also the confidence that Brazilians place in your leadership. Madame President, while all countries have been experiencing fiscal and other adjustments to meet the demands of the tail-end of the global recession, Brazil has certainly endured the brunt of this global crisis while preparing for both World Cup Football in 2014 and Olympics 2016,” said Prime Minister the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas in his congratulatory message.
Dr. Douglas noted that the international community recognizes the achievements of Brazil, especially as an emerging BRICS economy.
“The decision to form the BRICS Bank with funding from these five (5) countries to rival those of the Washington Consensus is expected to greatly impact nations like St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Dr. Douglas, who added that the South-South cooperation remains important for both of St. Kitts and Nevis and Brazil.
“The Federation is grateful for the cooperation in areas; such as, agriculture and sports through assistance from the Brazil Cooperation Agency. The cooperation between our countries has built capacity of our most precious resource – our people,” said Dr. Douglas.
He told the Brazilian President that the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis remains truly grateful for her resolve and for enhanced bilateral relations.
“Brazil’s leading role in the formation of the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States (CELAC). I look forward to the continued partnership, both bilaterally and multilaterally as we continue to tackle global challenges and seize opportunities for the benefit of all our peoples,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
The Brazilian President won 51.64 percent of the popular vote, beating center-right candidate Aecio Neves of the PSDB and continuing the PT’s (Worker’s Party) 12 year run in highest office.
