    CONVICTIONS

     

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUSTICE continues to be served at the Federation’s Magistrate’s Courts and over the past couple of weeks a number of persons were convicted of the charges brought against them and were fined and sentenced in accordance.

     

    Damien Nisbett was sentenced to prison for gun and drug-related offences.

     

    The Stapleton Village, St. Peters resident appeared before the court on charges of “possession of ammunition” and “possession of cannabis” and was sentenced to five years on the first count and two on the second, which are to run concurrently.

     

    Ponds Extension resident Conrad Clarke was sentenced to serve one month at Her Majesty’s Prison after he was convicted of a February 26, 2009 offence of “unlawful possession”.

     

    Another Ponds Extension resident, Kimberly Byron was ordered to pay $1 052 in fines and compensation after she was convicted of a May 18, 2008 larceny offence.

     

    The presiding magistrate in that case ordered that she pay a $500 fine and $552 in compensation to the virtual complainant in the case.

     

    For “driving an unregistered vehicle”, “driving when he was not covered by insurance” and “driving when not the holder of a valid and unexpired driver’s licence”, Steve Browne of Cotton Ground was convicted and cautioned.

     

    A $500 fine has to be paid by Donford Martin if he is to avoid incarceration. The Ramsbury resident was convicted of “driving a vehicle without the consent of the owner”, “driving when not covered by insurance” and “driving when not the holder of a valid and unexpired driver’s licence”.  He has three months to pay the fine or in default, serve one month imprisonment.

     

    ARRESTS

     

    Several persons were arrested and charged over the last couple of weeks as they are believed to have committed acts that contravened the laws of the Federation. 

     

    A Hermitage Village juvenile was arrested and charged with one count of “battery” while David Morton and Vanston Blackmore of the same area were arrested and charged with the same, but unrelated, offence.

     

    For allegedly beating a police officer, Roxanne Smithen of Osbourne Street, Cayon was arrested and charged. She was also charged with one count of “making use of threatening language”.

     

    Bath Villager Shane Parry was arrested and charged with “wounding” while Steve Buttme Henry, a Haynes Smith Village resident, was arrested and charged with one count of “indecent assault” which is said to have been committed on January 11, 2009.

     

    For a March 5, 2009 offence of cannabis possession, Jahmelar Nias of Gillard Meadow, Wayne Ible of Cayon Street and Brian Farrell of New Pond Site were arrested and charged.

     

    In an unrelated incident, Upper Prickley Pear Alley resident Shawn Liburd was arrested and charged with the offence of “possession of marijuana”.

     

    Trafalgar Village resident Gibson Blake and Lime Kiln resident Pamella Colbourne were charged with separate counts of “larceny”. 

     

    A Main Street, Sandy Point juvenile was arrested and charged with a March 10, 2009 “house breaking and larceny” offence.

     

    For the offence of “carrying abroad an offensive weapon”, Travis Crawford of Mc Knight and Gavin Grant of Fort Thomas Road were arrested and charged.

     

    “Malicious damage” was the offence with which Craig Warner of Sandy Point was arrested and charged.

     

    Saddlers Village inhabitant Otis French was arrested and charged with “driving when he was not covered by insurance”.

     

    All persons are expected to appear before one of the Federation’s Magistrate Court shortly to answer to their charges.
