Spotlight Shines on Children for this Year’s Drama Week

Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 05, 2014 (SKNIS): With drama week fast approaching, primary school students are in high spirits as they prepare for this year’s drama week held under the theme “Let the Children Shine”.

Moses Byron, Drama Coordinator for the primary schools, explained why this theme was chosen.

“We think it is important that the children have an opportunity to display their talents and we are saying then that if they have that opportunity let them go all out and show what they are capable of doing. So we selected ‘Let the Children Shine’.”

Mr. Byron added that the week is crucial in showcasing the drama activities that take place in the primary schools.

Unique from previous years, the children will be depicting child abuse through their performances.  Also on the agenda are performances of Caribbean cultural events on Drama Day (November 14) at the Independence Square from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  In addition, guest speakers will travel to various schools to make presentations and drama zonal competitions will be held.

Mr. Byron encourages the public to support the children for the Monologue Competition Finals on Thursday, November 13 at the St. Johnson Community Centre at 5:30 p.m. by attending the event.

Drama week opens on November 09 with an address by the Minister of Education the Hon. Nigel Carty. The week will end with a fun day at the Lime playground on November 15.
