BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN his latest comments about his former colleague and Prime Minister designate for Team Unity, the Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris, Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas has labelled him as a “power-hungry animal”, “vindictive” and “spiteful”.
Prime Minister Douglas made the comments this morning (Nov. 18) during his radio talk show programme “Ask the Prime Minister”.
After making the stern statement, Dr. Douglas recalled an incident where, as he claimed, Dr. Harris solicited and received the vote of a supporter of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) with the understanding that in return, she would be given a house. He also claimed that that promise was never kept.
“Timothy Harris is really a power-hungry animal, hungry for power and very vindictive and spiteful. One the political rostrum on Friday night (Nov. 14), I was relating to the people in Tabernacle a personal experience I’ve had with him. There is a lady from Tabernacle, a PAM supporter and he canvased her; promised that if he would vote for him…she would be given a house.
“Election Day came and the lady went, she told me that she voted for him and he knew how she voted for him because he ensured through his method that she voted for him. Low and behold after, the very house that was due for the lady, he gave it to his 18-year-old niece…”
The Prime Minister said he was approached by the said lady and after being told of the situation, he found it necessary to approach Dr. Harris. He said Harris’ response caused him some concern.
“And the lady came to me after the election and I learnt that this was what happened and I spoke with him and he told me ‘Prime Minister, keep out of this. I am from Tabernacle, I know who I dealing with. Those are PAM people, those are PAM people and she aine gun get no house’…
“Spite, wickedness, deliberate deceit, trying to bamboozle and fool people and that is what Harris is, that is why Harris’ own bid for reelection is falling apart.”
The political leader of the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis confidently asserted that “because people are getting more and more to know who Harris really is”, his political opponent Dr. Vance Gilbert – who is the candidate for the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party – would be in the winners’ circle on Election Day.
