Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 17, 2014 (Beyond Timeless): St. Kitts and Nevis is among ten countries implementing activities for Caribbean Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), under the Scotiabank funded “Bridging the Gap” Project, brought to you by The Caribbean Center of Excellence for Sustainable Livelihoods.

GEW is the world’s largest celebration of the spirit of entrepreneurship and its positive effect on society. It was conceived in the United Kingdom (U.K.) in 2007, to stimulate interest in entrepreneurship and encourage entrepreneurial mindedness. Now in its sixth year, GEW has expanded to more than 150 countries.
Locally, events will run from November 17 to 22 and include:
Presentations by entrepreneurs at public high schools, Monday 17th through Friday 21st.

A presentation at the UWI Open Campus on Wednesday 19th November at 7pm, titled "Marketing for Business Success," by Ervin Welsh, of Beyond Timeless.

A Business Innovation Workshop for High School Students, hosted by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank also on Wednesday 19th November.

A breakfast meeting themed "Celebrating Entrepreneurship: The Life Blood of Sustainable Economic Development," at which emerging and established entrepreneurs will discuss the evolving business environment, their successes, challenges and opportunities. This takes place on Thursday 20th November. (Invitation Only)

A Design and Technology Mini Expo hosted by CFBC Lecturer and founder of Innovative Education and Training Solutions, Tamu Browne, will take place at the CFBC on Friday 21st November (Not open to the public).

The week’s activities culminate in a Business Mixer on Saturday 22nd November.
Ervin Welsh, Owner of Beyond Timeless and co-host of GEW St. Kitts and Nevis, noted that this year’s activities focus both on celebrating entrepreneurship and bridging the gap we have as a region, in playing catch up with larger territories in the concept of entrepreneurship. He said “the breakfast and mixer will bring together established and emerging business leaders, to share knowledge and forge ties that can help emerging businesses better navigate likely challenges and creates opportunities for partnership between the two, rather than solely competition.”
Welsh added that “the school presentations aim to introduce the concept of entrepreneurship in the often-overlooked boarder sense, noting that white-collar jobs are not the only option if your heart desires otherwise and success is not defined by the size of the enterprise. Workshops and lectures aim to address recurring issues like the need for innovation in business ideas and the lack of understanding about marketing,” he concluded.
Local events are spearheaded by Beyond Timeless, in collaboration with the National Entrepreneurial Development Division (NEDD), Junior Achievement St. Kitts and Nevis, The Department of Youth Empowerment, the University of the West Indies, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and Innovative Education and Training Solutions.
