TDC presents $4 000 cheque to Breast Cancer Patients Assistance Fund

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE resources of the St. Kitts and Nevis Breast Cancer Patients Assistance Fund were bolstered this morning (Nov. 28) with a donation from the TDC Group of Companies, which it raised as a part of its Think Pink Campaign during Breast Cancer Month 2014.

     

    A handing over ceremony was held at TDC’s Home and Building Depot, St. Kitts branch, where TDC’s Client Relations and Marketing Department’s Marketing Assistant Dominic Matthew and member of the Board of Trustees of the St. Kitts and Nevis Breast Cancer Patients Assistance Fund, Dr. Kathlene Allen-Ferdinand were on hand to facilitate the transaction.

    Matthew indicated that since 2012 the Group has been observing Breast Cancer Month (October) through its Think Pink Campaign, and this year the element of a “Pink Bingo” was added which saw individuals shopping at both Home and Building Depots making a monetary donation to the cause. Each individual received a chance to win a prize during the promotion and the total sum of money collected was donated to the Fund.

    In handing over the $4 000 cheque, Matthew expressed that the Group was pleased to assist in the breast cancer awareness campaign and fight against the disease.

    Dr. Allen-Ferdinand expressed thanks to the Group for its effort and explained that the Fund was established by a breast cancer patient who received quality care and wished for others who were battling the disease to receive the same. She established the Fund to provide assistance to those who would have fallen short in dealing their healthcare expenses and many women have been helped over the years.

    In thanking TDC for the donation, Dr. Allen-Ferdinand spoke of early breast cancer detection as the best means of survival.

    She took the time to “encourage all men and women to take part in these screenings not just with TDC when it is offered in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but at all other times of the year. Early detection of breast cancer really offers the best chance of surviving that very scary disease. People who present late, your chances are much less of you having a successful outcome to treatment”.

    The cheque was presented by Jennifer Hazel, the cashier who managed to raise the largest sum of money among all the cashiers during the Pink Bingo promotion.

    Dr. Allen-Ferdinand said she hoped that TDC expressed interest would stimulate “a ripple effect in corporate St. Kitts”.
