OAS Secretary General Welcomes the Release of Kidnapped Persons in Colombia

By: OAS, Press Release

November 30, 2014  --  The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today welcomed the release in Colombia of General Rubén Darío Alzate and the other two people kidnapped recently by the FARC, and expressed his hope that, once this obstacle has been satisfactorily overcome, peace negotiations will be restarted as soon as possible.

Secretary General Insulza highlighted the efforts of President Santos to move forward the peace process with the backing of the great majority of the people of Colombia and the international community. For this reason, he expressed his hope that “unlawful acts that could impede the process we are all following with hope are not repeated.”

“There are still important issues to be debated and agreed upon and we are sure they will be addressed without further interruptions and with the constructive attitude that has characterized negotiations to this point,” concluded the Secretary General.
