BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUST ahead of revealing his Strategic Plan for Constituency Number Two, People’s Action Movement’s Deputy Political Leader Jonel Powell disclosed to SKNVibes some of the areas that the Plan would address.

Powell has admitted to SKNVibes that he is confident of unseating the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party representative for Constituency Number Two, the Hon. Marcella Liburd, and when that takes place there is an intricate Strategic Plan which he would implements to the benefit of the Number Two Constituency.

Without giving too many details, Powell explained that crime and violence is one of the priority areas which his Plan would address.

“The number one issue affecting the Number Two Constituency is the issue of crime. It is not specific to Constituency Number Two but we know that in recent times the McKnight area, in particular, and Irishtown and Market Street, to a lesser extent, have been areas where we’ve had significant criminal activity…I believe that the police need to re-establish proper relationship with the people in these areas in particular as opposed to just coming, raiding and arresting…

“A lot of the issues overlap but things like abandoned buildings and some of the overgrown lots are being used to harbour criminal activity in terms of hideouts and for whatever it may be from drugs to theft. They use these places to aid them!”

Powell also named unemployment/underemployment as one of his priority areas of concern.

The need for a “change in the culture of politics” has been acknowledged by Powell and according him, it is one of the areas which his strategic plan would tackle.

“Governance in terms of the manner in which our representative ought to relate to his or her constituency and behave towards his or her constituency, which includes access to your representative, is an area which needs addressing.

“There is a difference between election time representation and full time representation, and that is the difference that I want to make. MPs are elected to serve the people all the time and not just when election is coming because they want a vote. That is why I speak of access to a Representative not just a Minister of Government. I am advocating across the board, whether your party is in government or not.”

More details of the Plan would be released by Powell this evening (Dec. 1) during a meeting at his Constituency Office at the corner of Cayon Street and Thibou Avenue scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.

Constituents of his constituency are being invited to attend the meeting and listen to Powell’s policies while forwarding their questions on matters pertaining to them.

SKNVibes understands that the meeting would be broadcast live on WINNFM and Sugar City Roc.
